From Stuttgart through Germany (avoiding Switzerland):
- Take the A81 from Stuttgart towards Singen
- Take the exit at Villingen-Schwenningen
- Follow signs for Donaueschingen
- Follow signs for Stühlingen
- Follow signs for Klettgau/Wutöschingen and continue through the level crossing
- Enter Erzingen and continue to Hauptstrasse
- Turn left towards Riedern a. Sand
- Turn right almost immediately towards Riedern a. Sand
- Turn left at Gasthof Hazienda towards Jestetten – Dettighofen
- Enter Dettighofen
- In Dettighofen turn left by the fountain and follow signs for Albführen
- Keep right at the fork and continue straight through the forest until you reach Hofgut Albführen
Journey time from Donaueschingen is about 1.5 hours
From Stuttgart via Switzerland:
- Take the A81 from Stuttgart towards Singen and continue to the end of the motorway at Gottmadingen
- Cross the border at Thayngen (a transit certificate is required for horses)
- Continue towards Schaffhausen/Neuhausen
- In the tunnel take the first right towards Rheinfall
- Turn right at the next junction towards Zurich – Rheinfall
- Keep right at the next set of traffic lights and pass under the railway bridge
- Turn left at the next junction following signs for Zurich über deutsches Gebiet, Jestetten
- Cross the border at Neuhausen (with transit certificate, if required)
- Continue through Jestetten,
- At the roundabout on the edge of the village take the first exit towards Waldshut
- In Dettighofen turn right by the fountain and follow signs for Albführen
- Keep right at the fork and continue straight through the forest until you reach Hofgut Albführen
Important:
- If you are travelling through Switzerland you will need a Swiss motorway sticker to drive through the tunnels in Schaffhausen. Stickers are available at the border or from petrol stations and cost CHF 50
- If you are taking your horse across the border into Switzerland you will have to fill in a transit certificate stating name, breed, age, etc.
From Lörrach/Waldshut through Germany:
- From Lörrach follow the B34 towards Rheinfelden
- Continue on the B34 towards Bad Säckingen
- Continue on the B34 towards Laufenburg
- Follow signs for Waldshut, Tiengen, Lauchringen, Griessen
- Continue on the B34;
- From Griessen follow signs for Jestetten
- Continue through Riedern a. Sand and past Bühl towards Dettighofen
- In Dettighofen turn left at the fountain and follow signs for Albführen
- Keep right at the fork and continue straight through the forest until you reach Hofgut Albführen
From Zurich:
- From Zurich take the A51 towards Kloten/Airport
- Follow the motorway towards Bülach
- Continue to the end of the motorway, then continue straight towards Eglisau
- Continue through Eglisau
- At the roundabout follow signs for Hüntwangen
- Continue through Hüntwangen
- At Bühl cross the border into Germany
- Turn right towards Dettighofen
- In Dettighofen turn left by the fountain towards Albführen
- Keep right at the fork and continue straight through the forest until you reach Hofgut Albführen
If you wish to cross at a manned customs checkpoint:
- From Eglisau follow signs for Rafz/Jestetten and cross the border
- At the roundabout in Jestetten take the third exit (left) towards Waldshut
- In Dettighofen turn right by the fountain and follow signs for Albführen
- Keep right at the fork and continue straight through the forest until you reach Hofgut Albführen
From Freiburg:
- From Freiburg continue on to Höllental
- From Höllental follow signs for Donaueschingen
- Continue onto the B500 towards Waldshut
- Continue through Lenzkirch, Gündelwangen, Bonndorf, Weizen
- Follow signs for Stühlingen
- Continue onto the B314 past Stühlingen towards Waldshut-Tiengen
- Turn off at Wutöschingen
- Continue onto the L163 A towards Erzingen
- In Erzingen turn left at Gasthaus Löwen
- Take the next right turn towards Riedern am Sand
- Before reaching Riedern turn left at Gasthaus Hazienda and continue onto the L163 towards Jestetten
- In Dettighofen turn left towards Albführen
- Keep right at the fork and continue straight through the forest until you reach Hofgut Albführen
